Our Journey, Our Hopes & Our Future.....

“The journey with Jesus towards World Youth Day 2011 has been an impactful and fulfilling experience. He gave us Father Philips Muthu who went the ends to make this possible. He gave us a great core team who knew their calling for this one mission. He gave us supporting parishioners who saw our purpose in all we did. Above all, He built the Assumption Church Petaling Jaya banner with a contingent of 137 pilgrims. He provided us with RM96764.60 through our fundraising efforts. He gave us all a beautiful 8 months journey with one another. Now I believe it is our time. We are going to Madrid and coming back to continue the journey of great works Jesus has started for us.  After all, our destination is not Madrid but where our hearts beat - Assumption Church Petaling Jaya.” Irene Lewis (Chairperson, Assumption WYD’11 Team)

‘”To be part of the organizing team is truly a blessed journey and I do not see World Youth Day coming to an end. There were many matters to handle before the launch in November 2010, toiling and hardships throughout the 8-month course, yet, there are gifts to be received and blessed with by the Holy Spirit in Madrid, and more to accomplish when I get back.  As time does not stop, we should not stop and stand still. In returning, I look to encourage the next set of parishioners to step forward and to attend the next World Youth Day; either part of the organizing team or as a pilgrim searching for more. The journey has changed my life and I believe the ‘next journey’ will change  yours. Jesus walks with us everyday, it is our choice to choose to walk with Him."
Kevin Nicholas (Financial Controller, Assumption WYD’11 Team)

“I have been on a 7 month journey which has transformed me as a pilgrim to a state where I feel ready to attend World Youth Day in Madrid. The retreats have made me see my faith in a different way and being part of the Assumption Youth Network I feel so blessed that God has introduced me to such a loving and open community. They have showed me a path where I can find peace through God and even in times of struggle He will always be there for us. This community is a true testament to God’s power and I strongly  believe that they are God’s instruments. In Madrid, I want to have an experience which will show me my true calling in life and strengthen my faith. By using the knowledge that I hope to obtain there, I want to be able to reach out to the youths out there and show them how wonderful it is to be part of Gods community and to do His great works.”
Andrew Paul Raj (Pilgrim, Assumption Church)
"Everything and all we have are pure gifts from God. Our Life, our opportunities, our families, our Catholic Faith are all precious gifts that flows from the love of Jesus. I said YES to God's calling 10 months ago in October 2010 to wanting to experience WYD’11. I decided about this with an open heart and mind, to have FUN WITH THE LORD, to ROCK With Jesus and to Walk with HIM on this journey that awaits me in Madrid. I want to experience HIS love in ways I never have before, come back and share it as my living testimony to others. On behalf of the CDM WYD’11 Pilgrims, we want to thank the Assumption WYD’11 Team for opening your arms, hearts and doors to the 12 of us. God bless all of us for a safe journey.”
Charles Cabrini Armstrong (Chief Coordinator for Single Adults Ministry, Church of The Divine Mercy)

What has the journey in the last 7 months toward Madrid’11 brought to your life?
This journey has introduced me to a group of people who have grown to be my spiritual gems in the sense that they brought me closer to God through their actions and words. Knowing them has been a blessing especially since they have shown me the meaning of “seeing Jesus in each and every one”.
What do you hope to experience in Madrid?
I would want to witness firsthand the unanimity of the Catholic Church. It would definitely be an amazing sight when you stand in a crowd of people of different ethnicities and nationalities, worshipping our Almighty God, just as we do here in Malaysia.
What do you hope to bring back to your parish/community?
I hope to share my experiences in Madrid or in general, just to share whatever I have or know with people I know or encounter, with the hope that it will reflect Christ’s presence in my life.
Serena Chew (Media Crew, Assumption WYD’11 Team)

After the Weekend Away Retreat, God gave me more confidence and He healed my sins, past and present. After 7 months of preparation, He also told how serious this pilgrimage will be and gave me a glimpse of what is in for me in Madrid. He made me a friend to a lot of people throughout the journey. I am willing to learn more, be more comfortable with myself and also be an example to my aunty who is following me. I love u all. Thank you for being my friends, GBU!!
Sandra Dreisan (Pilgrim, Church of St. Thomas More)

AYN Youth Night with Ben Lo from Empowered Kuching

AYN had an awesome time with Benedict Lo (Head Servant of Empowered Ministry Kuching). God willingly sent him our way for our Youth Night  (Thurs 30 June) to break the word for us. Ben shared that God created us to be loved but the message of the world is that we must pursue love in people or things. Love is made perverse; lust is made relevant. People get used and hearts are broken as  we get so caught up in our pursue to be loved and put false worth on people and things that will eventually fade away. “We are going against the current”, as Ben put it. He said that as young people we  are free to serve God because we have so much of  freedom and energy and that if YOU as a young person would stand up for God and choose to remain pure you are a powerful and living testimony for Jesus. It made me realize that who I am is in Jesus. I am a child of God and my worth is in Him. I am priceless because Jesus died for me with a love I cannot repay. I am worth true love. We need to be rooted in God’s love and once you’ve found a perfect love such as His you don’t need anybody to complete you. When the time is right, the right person will come along and you don't have to go looking for him or her.

Ben continued to share about the parable of the 5 loaves and 2 fishes. It struck me because Jesus used the little that was available to feed the multitude and they had 12 baskets left over from the LITTLE that Jesus blessed and broke to be shared. Ben asked if we were willing to offer and give God whatever little that we had; to be both blessed and broken. It meant a total and complete submission to God and His will for you for His glory. It doesn’t matter if you’re not good enough or feel like you’re not as talented or gifted; all He wants for you is to say yes and He’ll take care of the rest.  Ben said, “Don’t hold back.” To me it also meant not looking back once You’ve given Him your life and chosen to believe in Him. Well, I choose Jesus because I know He is faithful. He can turn ashes into beauty.

Lastly to quote Ben, "When you are in line with God's will, He will bless you tremendously." - Sandra Christine

La Salle CSS Rally - A New Beginning -

It was an exciting morning for AYN and 40 over students of Catholic Student Societies from S.M. Assunta, La Salle, PJ  and CHS. The Rally themed the New Beginning was reflective of the 3 hours spent with the high school student. Student were led into time of praise and worship, fun ice-breakers, group dynamics and a time of teaching. We saw each personality shine through each individual and that all of them were special, created in the image and likeness of God. In order to be the new breed for the New Beginning, each of them were challenged to put on the armour of God (Eph 6:12) and to unite for Christ and His call for us to be the X-men of our generation  and world.  AYN had lots of fun with you and God that weekend! We pray that this group will be the one to stand up for Jesus and lead other high school students to His saving love! -  Rachael D'Rozario

CHOSEN .....Easter Rally 2011, by Empowered Ministry Kuching Sarawak

The theme for this year's Easter Rally "Chosen" is very empowering. To me its a deeper calling that God has for me. A Choice to come out from my comfort zone. Mission that God has install for me to carry his Cross, to be an ambassador of Christ in my day to day life and sharing Christ Love with others. It challenges me to always equipe myself with the Armour of Christ, the Word of God for it will be my guide, protector, the truth and love. Humble before the Lord and a deeper relationship with the Lord " praying" is the key. When we Choose to focus on God, He is magnified and Glorified. - Juliana Juan

The Call - Mission Possible Weekend 29 Apri - 1 May 2011

When I went for the camp I wasn’t sure what to expect, if anything I was reluctant to come but deep down I knew I needed that time away with God. At the camp, though slowly but surely and very gently I felt God breaking down the walls of my heart and entering in just to be with me. I found that throughout my time at the camp God really did speak to me through the people and speakers He sent our way. Each time it just helped me reinforce that trust I had in Him however small.  He helped me realize what wrong beliefs I had for so long it blew me away, gave me a new understanding and perspective on things. Life after the camp was a struggle. It was so much harder after I have completely given God ownership of my heart. Life didn’t change much but I found my perspective changed and I had so much more peace and understanding in my heart.  Finding time to pray was hard because I kept putting it off and there were so many distractions and I felt I was failing more than succeeding. I’ve learned a lot these past two weeks. Every dream I thought was important I’ve come to realize I gave them false sentimental value and I didn’t need them anymore because Jesus was giving me a new heart, new dreams and passion.  I was already fulfilled in Jesus, I had everything I needed (by Sandra Christine)

Message from Parish Priest: Fr. Phillips Muthu

Thanks AYN for all the spiritual energy whole heartedly synergised during the lenten reflection, simple but profound. The youths are obviously growing and are becoming signs of God love in the Parish. Thanks for the AYN drive, it was a 'netfull' of new registration. The Youth Ministry is being led in a special way to the Will of the Father as Jesus says. Thanks again for all your arduous support and relentless strength - Father Phillips

What are you GIVING UP this lent??

Outreach Time Again

Among many, there is a preconceived notion about the word migrant. The only reason I tagged along for this outreach was to support the initiatives my friends had put together for the refugee students at the Assumption Learning Centre in Pudu. Little did I realise I was in for a surprise. The visit was awesome! We had so much fun, laughter, warmth and love going around. I knew the students had as much a good time as I did when one of them asked “Will you be back next week?”. The entire trip was breath-taking and words alone are not enough to express it, not until you experience it yourself. I wouldn’t say it was a life-changing experience but it definitely changed the way I perceived life, through the eyes of a refugee. I will definitely want to go again but this time, not only to support my friends but I look forward to visiting my new friends, the Myanmarese folks. – GERALDINE REMA,(APM)
